In closing, the following excerpt is from the Navy Chief Petty Officer's Creed and best captures what it means to advance to Chief Petty Officer (CPO) in the U.S. Navy."In the United States Navy -- and only in the United States Navy -- the rank of E7 carries with it unique responsibilities and privileges you are now bound to observe and expected to fulfill. Your entire way of life is now changed. More will be expected of you; more will be demanded of you. Not because you are a E7 but because you are now a Chief Petty Officer. You have not merely been promoted one pay grade, you have joined an exclusive fellowship and, as in all fellowships, you have a special responsibility to your comrades, even as they have a special responsibility to you. This is why we in the United States Navy may maintain with pride our feelings of accomplishment once we have attained the position of Chief Petty Officer."

Chris, Jay and I are so proud of you and know that dada would be to. I remember when I first met you many years ago and you were finishing high school and working at the movie theater. You have grown into a fine man.And can play a mean Bond 007 game until 4 in the morning. Also dragging me out on Friday after Thanksgiving to shop for a ring for you mom. We all are about to bust open with pride. There is no way to tell you the excitment your father has for you with this news. He said he knew both of your grandfathers were looking down with pride as well. We know how hard this is to achieve, but know you desired it a long time ago. In our eyes you have always been the best and I have been proud to be your stepmother from day one. We know this is just the begining of more to come. Now we are just waiting for 2 more notices (you coming home & the new baby too)
